What We Do & Who We Are

Evidenced-Based Teaching &
Prevention Practices

Evidence-Based Teaching Methods:

At Evergreen Hill Learning Center, we take great pride in using good pedagogy, teaching methods, to ensure student learning and success. We always build our classes using the Backward Design.  We start by creating an assessment that evaluates a student’s understanding of the most vital information in the course.  The student receives a study guide at the beginning of the course so that they may prepare for this assessment.  The method of Backward Design ensures the most student learning.  We also use all Learning Modalities by engaging a student through sight, sound, physical interactions, and flexibility.  Students with preferences in all learning styles will find that they may learn in ways that suit them best. Finally, we often use Inquiry Based Learning in our classes, as that makes the class even more student centered and gives access to more resources. Through these evidenced-based teaching methods, and more, we have built classes to support student learning and success.

Evidence-Based Prevention Practices:

Our courses are based on research- based practices.  Our approaches include the use of cognitive behavioral work, which gives participants tools to help increase positive thought processes, behaviors, and ability to explore cognitive coping skills.  In addition, we address risk and protective factors which tell us that individuals may have a lack of knowledge regarding the risks of substances and high-risk behaviors.  Our approach is competence enhancement based and allows course participants to develop problem-solving and decision making skills as well as increasing self-control.  Our courses are web based, which have been shown to help with participant motivation.
